Customer Alert: Beware of Phone Scams and Caller ID Spoofing

Wasaga Distribution is warning customers about fraudulent phone calls involving scammers who are spoofing our business phone number.

We have been made aware that individuals are fraudulently using Wasaga Distribution’s phone number to contact customers and discuss matters such as visa details, alleged discounts on electricity bills, and outstanding account balances.

Please be aware that these calls are not being made by Wasaga Distribution. Scammers can manipulate called ID information to make it appear as though a call is coming from a legitimate business, even when it is not.

How to Recognize a Legitmate Call from Wasaga Distribution

We want our customers to feel confident when communicating with us. If we contact you regarding an outstanding electricity bill, we will:

  • Never demand immediate payment over the phone.
  • Never pressure you into providing payment or banking information.
  • Always provide you with the option to make a payment over the phone with us or to submit the payment yourself through your financial insitution.

Wasaga Distribution does not contact customers to discuss visa details or offer unsolicited discounts on their electricity bills.

How to Protect Yourself

If you receive a suspicious call:

  • Do not provide credit card, banking, personal or financial inforamtion.
  • Do not agree to make a payment based on an unexpected or suspicious phone call.
  • Hang up if you feel pressured or uncomfortable.
  • If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, end the call and contact Wasaga Distribution directly using the phone number listed on our official website or your electricity bill.

Remember: Even if your caller ID displays Wasaga Distribution’s phone number, this does not guarantee that the call is legitimate.
