A Message to Our Customer’s Following This Weekend’s Outage

May 19, 2026

This past weekend, many residents and businesses in our community experienced an unexpected power outage that impacted a large portion of our service area. We understand how disruptive outages can be for families, businesses, and essential daily activities, and we sincerely appreciate the patience shown by our customers while crews worked to restore power safely.

The outage was caused by a major equipment failure at one of our distribution stations, resulting in a complete loss of service from that station. Distribution stations are a critical part of the electrical system and help deliver electricity to large areas of the community. While our team performs regular inspections, maintenance, and system upgrades throughout the year, unexpected equipment failures can still occur without warning.

Once the issue was identified, our crews immediately began assessing the damage, isolating the problem, and restoring service as quickly and safely as possible. Restoration work during large outages is a complex process that can require system reconfiguration, ongoing assessments, and coordination across multiple parts of the electrical distribution system before service can be fully restored.

We recognize that during outages, customers want timely and accurate information. Throughout the event, our team worked to provide updates as information became available while crews remained focused on safely restoring service. In situations involving significant equipment failures, restoration timelines can change as crews continue assessments and repairs.

Events like this also provide an opportunity for us to review system performance, response efforts, and how we communicate with our customers during outages. Wasaga Distribution remains committed to investing in system reliability and identifying opportunities to improve both our infrastructure and customer communications moving forward.

We also encourage customers to be prepared for unexpected outages by keeping flashlights, batteries, mobile charging devices, and emergency supplies readily available. Customers who rely on electrically powered medical equipment should ensure they have a backup emergency plan in place.

On behalf of everyone at Wasaga Distribution, thank you again for your patience, understanding, and support throughout this weekend’s outages.
