Service Charges

Whether you buy your electricity from a local utility at a regulated rate or from an independent electricity retailer, your monthly electricity bill contains a number of charges including:

Delivery:

These are the costs of delivering electricity from generating stations across the Province to Wasaga Distribution Inc. then to your home or business. This includes the costs to build and maintain transmission and distribution lines, towers and poles and operate provincial and local electricity systems. A portion of these charges are fixed and do not change from month to month. The rest are variable and increase or decrease depending on the amount of electricity that you use. The delivery charge also includes the costs relating to electricity lost through distributing electricity to your home or business. Wasaga Distribution Inc. collects this money and pays this amount directly to our suppliers.

Customer Service Charge:

A fixed charge for residential customers for costs related to meter reading, billing, customer service for utility operations.

Transmission Charge:

A variable charge for the costs of transmitters to operate and maintain the high-voltage transmission system that carries electricity from generating stations to your utility.

Line Loss Adjustment:

It is normal for a small amount of power to be lost as it travels over the utility’s power lines to your home or business. In calculating your electricity costs for the billing period, Wasaga Distribution multiplies your electricity cost by an adjustment factor that accounts for those losses.

Ontario Energy Board Regulated Rate Riders:

Are rates collected by Wasaga Distribution Inc. to recover or refund the accumulated difference between market costs paid to or by Wasaga Distribution Inc. to recover or refund the accumulated difference between market costs paid to or by Wasaga Distribution and those paid by customers. These rates are simply passed through to customers.

Regulatory Charges:

Regulatory charges are the costs of administering the wholesale electricity system and maintaining the reliability of the provincial grid.

Ontario Electricity Rebate:

The Ontario Electricity Rebate has added a rebate to provide bill relief on customer bills.
